A person had to be taken to hospital to be checked out after a high level of carbon monoxide was found in their home.

Two fire engines from Penrith were called at around 2am on Saturday after a carbon monoxide alarm sounded in a property in Hackthorpe.

Penrith Fire Station said: “On our arrival we found all occupants were out of the property.

“One of the four people who were in the house were suspected to be suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning so we requested an ambulance to come and check them out. That person was then taken to hospital as a precautionary measure to have further tests.

“Fire crews committed two breathing apparatus wearers along with carbon monoxide and gas checking equipment.

“On entering the property our alarms sounded and showed high readings of carbon monoxide was present; this again shows the importance of properties having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Please can we ask people again to make sure they have working carbon monoxide and smoke alarms in their property.”

On Thursday, January 16, crews were called out to Penrith town centre to a carbon monoxide incident. Ten properties were evacuated and a man was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
