
A woman has died following a collision in Whitehaven involving a police car.
The collision, which was reported at 7:50am yesterday, January 19, happened on Cleator Moor Road and involved the police car and a white Suzuki Celerio.
The driver of the Suzuki was a 64-year-old woman from Cleator Moor.
She was taken to hospital, however died earlier today, January 20. Specialist officers are continuing to support her family said Cumbria police.
The driver of the police vehicle, a male officer aged in his 20s, suffered serious injuries.
An independent investigation into this incident will be conducted by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Detective Chief Superintendent David Ashton, of Cumbria Constabulary, said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the woman who has sadly died.
“The constabulary will fully support the IOPC’s independent investigation into this incident to establish the full circumstances.”
