A young Carlisle woman was arrested for shouting and swearing at police while drunk in the city centre on New Year’s Eve.
Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated female who was refusing to leave a taxi at a rank close to Carlisle Railway Station.
That was 21-year-old Kelsey Blaylock, who became increasingly abusive after she left the taxi, and shouted at police.
“All of this was within earshot of members of the public,” George Shelley, prosecuting, said at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today.
“Police tried to ascertain her address in order to convey her home. However, she would not provide any information.
“She then started to shout and swear at officers and, once arrested, there was some resistance.”
In court, Blaylock admitted being drunk and disorderly at Court Square on December 31.
Magistrates heard she had eight previous convictions for 14 offences. Her last court appearance had been in August last year when she was fined for stealing from a shop.
Blaylock, of Dobinson Road, Carlisle, was not represented by a solicitor in court. She agreed with Mr Shelley’s outline of the facts from New Year’s Eve.
Asked whether she wanted to say anything to magistrates, she said: “Just that I apologise.”
Blaylock said she was getting help from two agencies which assist those with alcohol issues, and added: “I am trying to better myself. I’ve just had quite a lot going on.”
Magistrates took into account Blaylock’s attempts to seek help. They imposed an £80 fine and also ordered her to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £32 mandatory surcharge.
