Creating your will with Bendles: A simple and supportive process

Will

What is a will?

A will is a formal legal document that outlines how an individual’s assets should be distributed after their death.

It can also include specific instructions for the care of dependents, such as children or pets and may establish trusts to provide financial security for loved ones or safeguard assets for future beneficiaries.

Why should you have one?

Having a will is the only way to ensure your assets are distributed in accordance with your wishes.

In the absence of a valid will on death, the Rules of Intestacy dictate who receives what from your estate and how much. The rules are governed by statute and case law which focuses on blood relatives and spouses.

By drafting a will, you gain the flexibility to include anyone you wish such as family, friends, charities or other organisations.

It can be tailored specifically to meet your wishes whether it sets up a trust for the benefit of a spouse or children, or plan for future generations to allow succession of business assets.

A will provides clarity and certainty, protects your loved ones and aims to avoid legal disputes once you have passed.

It also simplifies the process for your executors, who would be responsible for ensuring your wishes have been met in accordance with the will.

What is the process of making a will at Bendles?

Many find the process of making a will to be daunting.

Here at Bendles we aim to provide you with necessary advice and support to guide you through the process so that your Will is completed efficiently and stress-free.

Initial appointment

During our initial appointment we would discuss your personal circumstances, your family tree, your assets and who you would like to provide for after your day.

At this stage we can suggest the different options which exist to facilitate these wishes.

Draft review

Once instructions have been agreed we then forward a draft for approval, before arranging a second appointment during which the will is finalised and signed.

Finalising your will

Once signed, the will is valid and legally binding, but we can also give you advice on when you may consider making changes to your will in the future or other documents you may wish to consider, such as Lasting Powers of Attorney.

For your convenience, we can facilitate initial instructions remotely on a case-by-case basis or offer home visits allowing you to complete the process in the comfort of your own home.

If you wish to discuss making a will here at Bendles please contact a member of our team on 01228 522215.
