Old furniture and equipment from Carlisle Library will have a new home, thanks to The Rebuild Site CIC.
The library is undergoing a £3.3 million revamp and Cumberland Council has partnered with The Rebuild Site to donate old furniture and equipment for repurposing in local community construction projects.
The Rebuild Site works to repurpose excess materials, with a particular focus on construction items, ensuring they are put to good use rather than going to waste.
The materials will support community groups, charities, and DIY enthusiasts by providing affordable, nearly new resources for building, crafting, and repair projects.
The library is currently closed temporarily to undergo a significant upgrade, funded by the Government’s Carlisle Town Deal, with additional investment from Cumberland Council.
The project will see the library transformed into a modern learning and community hub, the council said, complete with state-of-the-art facilities, a dedicated children’s zone, social spaces, adult learning classrooms, study areas, and a display for The Jackson Collection.
A temporary library space will open within part of the existing building by the end of this month.
In the meantime, Cumberland Council’s Library Links in Morton Manor, Denton Holme, and Harraby Community Centre, Longtown and Brampton Libraries, will provide access to book borrowing, PCs, and WiFi.
Digital services, including the BorrowBox app, and family history resources such as Ancestry and FindMyPast, will remain available.
The Adult Learning Service has temporarily relocated to the Civic Centre in Carlisle.
