A Carlisle woman has been jailed for 18 years for a knife attack.

Jacqueline Mounsey, 53, of Whernside, Carlisle, was found guilty for two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent following an earlier 10-day trial.

She was sentenced today at Carlisle Crown Court and must serve a minimum of 12 years.

The court heard that on June 10 last year, police were called to an address on Whernside, Carlisle to the report of three people with stab wounds. One of the victims was a child.

One of the victims, a man, had attended his neighbour’s property stating Mousey had stabbed him in the neck while he was asleep on the couch.

Once police arrived it was established he had a single stab wound to the neck.

A child was also found with two knife wounds to the neck and taken by air ambulance to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

Mousey also had stab wounds to her neck and thigh and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The child was spoken to be detectives and made comments it was the man that had caused the injuries to them and Mounsey.

Mounsey and the man were both initially arrested. Mousey was interviewed on June 13, mostly answering no comment but admitted to detectives whilst been taken to a place of safety she had done it, which was captured on body worn video.

The man then de-arrested and no further actioned.

Detective Constable Louise Telford from Cumberland CID was the investigating officer alongside senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Matthew Belshaw.

He said: “This was a distressing and tragic incident.

“Mounsey attacked the man and child with a knife before turning the knife on herself in a bid to blame the man for the injuries.

“She also coerced the child to also shift the blame before later admitting the offence to officers. This incident will have a lasting impact on those involved as well as the local community.

“Again I would like to acknowledge the victims of which this will have a lasting impact.”
