
Workington Veterans Club A produced a dominant home display to overcome top tier defending champions Workington Golf Club 4-1, strengthening their position in Division 1 in the process.
The visitors started strongly, with Mark Brasted securing a solid 47-19 victory over Mark Tunstall to give Golf Club the early lead.
However, Vets A’s talisman Kevin Basnett turned the tide in stunning fashion, crafting a magnificent break of 48 on his way to a resounding 85-33 win over Ryan Ismay, levelling the match at 1-1.
From there, the home side seized control as Mark Tatton delivered an excellent break of 38 in a 71-23 triumph against Brian Walker, while Paul Smith followed up with a solid 67-27 victory over Phil Sorfleet.
In the final frame, Stephen O’Hagan rounded off a clinical display for Vets A, comfortably defeating Mark Cowan 66-20 to complete an excellent 4-1 victory.
Vets Club A swap places with the Golf Club into third place in the Division 1 table on 33 points, while Workington Golf Club drop to fourth, also on 33 points, having played a game more and with one less win.
In the next game, Maryport Social recorded an emphatic 4-1 home win over Division 2 rivals Vets Club B, extending their strong run of form. Ben Scott gave the home side the perfect start, outplaying Simon Tootle to win 61-23.
Andrew Sharp then followed up with a commanding victory over Lewis Straughton, 58-25 to extend Maryport’s lead to 2-0.
Social soon made it 3-0 as Andrew Scott battled hard to edge past Adam Hodgson 44-53, adding to Maryport’s pain. However, Vets B refused to be rattled, and Dan Hallam responded with a gritty 64-22 victory over Greg Todd to make it 3-1.

Nevertheless, Gary Miller then sealed the win for Maryport in style, defeating Jordan Ferguson 61-30 in hugely competitive frame.
Maryport Social continue their push for the for the Division 2 title as they move up to second place on 25 points, while Vets Club B remain at the foot of the table on 14 points.
The third fixture of the week saw Whitehaven’s Rack Shack edge a tense 3-2 home victory in an all Division 2 match up against Workington’s United Club B, in one of the most competitive matches of the round.
Neil Dougherty opened with a strong performance, outscoring Shane Tallentire 50-29 to give Rack Shack an early 1-0 lead. United B responded as Stephen Harrison took charge in frame two, defeating Adam Morilla 56-32 to level the match at 1-1.
The hosts regained control through Chris McKelvey, who produced an outstanding 65-30 win over Stephen Jackson to restore their advantage.
However, United B refused to go away, as Andrew Carter kept them in the contest with a 49-31 victory over Lee Dougherty, making it 2-2 going into the last frame of the match.
With the game in the balance, Phil Denvir held his nerve to overcome Richard Kirkham 66-24, securing a crucial 3-2 victory for Whitehaven outfit.

Rack Shack continue their standing in Division 2 to 21 points but still sit in fourth, while United Club B maintain third but on 24 points.
In the final game of the round United Club A claimed an important 3-2 victory over Workington Cons in a match that could have gone either way.
Dave Chapman kicked things off for United A with a 54-50 win over Alan Moore, Clive Lister then doubled the United A lead with a 44-19 win over Julian Plaza.
In frame three, Dave Holland produced on of his finest displays, winning 60-40 against Peter O’Hagan to pull a frame back for the Cons Club.
However, the match continued to swing, as Ryan Barker defeated Mark Suitor 59-4, leaving the match to be decided in the final frame.
With all to play for, Andrew Mitchelhill delivered a superb performance, overcoming Brian Kendall 72-28 to eventually secure the win for United Club A.
United Club A move to the top in Division 1 on 39 points, while Workington Cons still keep their first place in Division 2, now on 33 points, despite their defeat.
