A Kendal College student’s exhibition will open later this month, which champions sustainability in Cumbria.
Lucy Grecic, a year two art and design student, worked with the Cumbria Development Education Centre and over the last few weeks, student photographers have been visiting businesses and charities across Cumbria to photograph their work to build a fair and more sustainable world.
The Connected Cumbria exhibition showcases countywide efforts to champion equity, community, and environmental sustainability.
It provides a platform for charity workers, business leaders, and community members to connect, share ideas, and inspire hope for a fairer, sustainable future.
Lucy said: “I’ve worked with the Cumbria Development Education Centre on a few projects before this.
“Last year, they asked for any ideas for their funding. I pitched this exhibition as an event focused on celebrating the good work across the county.
“The need for this kind of celebration, focusing on hope and serving as a reminder of all the positive action that’s already taking place, is something I am so incredibly passionate about – especially in relation to climate change.
“In college, many of my projects have focused on this hopeful narrative, so the opportunity to create and organise the Connected Cumbria event, engaging with my local area and community and putting forward this idea into the real world, is something I’ve been so excited to be a part of.
“This project has solidified my love for combining creativity with real-world impact. It has hugely helped to develop my people management and communication skills.”
This project has been co-ordinated by young people with the support of the Cumbria Development Education Centre.
It opens on March 29 from 4pm to 6pm at Kendal College’s Wildman Gallery. Entry is free, but spaces are limited so bookings should be made via https://buff.ly/ToYs3mA
