Honours were even in what turned out to be a game of two halves, the teams sharing the spoils.
The Atoms ever-present keeper Fin Stephenson was unavailable with Lee Jolly, brother of top scorer Lewis, taking over duties between the sticks.
It was Easington keeper Ciaran Ure who was their star of the show in the first period.
He made excellent stops from efforts by Lewis Jolly, Ben Graham and Reece Fretwell to prevent the Atoms taking the lead.
A corner kick from Jolly opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.
The curve on the delivery causing panic in the Easington area deceiving Ure and entering the goal at the back post.
The lead was doubled five minutes later, the end result of yet another corner.
Jolly’s corner kick was floated to the far edge of the 6 yard box, Andrew Begbie heading the ball back across goal and into the far corner of the net.
With the wind at their backs Windscale were dictating play, Easington began showing the physical side of their play resulting in the awarding of two separate yellow cards.
The first for a deliberate trip on Fretwell, the second issued when Leo Brennan was unceremoniously hacked down.
The Atoms were denied a further goal a minute before the halftime break. Ure making yet another stop from his catalogue of stops in the half. Both teams happy to reach the sanctuary of the change rooms free of the wind and increasing rain.
The start of the second period found Windscale struggling against the elements conceding 2 goals, more the result of some mediocre defending than constructive attacking play.
It was Jordan Southern who pulled one back in the 73rd minute for Easington to reduce the arrears.
Their physicality became more intense due primarily to the attitude of the visitors’ manager, the match official having to issue him a red card for his behaviour.
Parity was restored 5 minutes before the final whistle, Southern completing his brace.
Shortly after the goal another red card was issued to Alfie Lindsay reducing Easington to 10 men.
However too little time for the Atoms to take advantage of Easington’s reduced numbers, the game ending 2-2.
This was Windscale’s final home game of the season with 4 away fixtures still to complete.
The first of these at Norton and Stockton Ancients this Wednesday.
The Atoms will be hoping to pick up some of the points available in order to meet their target of a top 6 finish, an onerous but not impossible task.
