
This weekend saw the first round of the EB Lamb & Son Amateur Cup and it brought together last year’s finalists Hensingham A hosting Wath Brow Hornets A.
Defending champions Wath Brow came away with a comfortable 4-56 victory as their strong experienced side seen them into the next round with tries from Dave Bradley (2), Adam Hodgson (2), Layton Dockwary (2), Craig Murphy, Greg Dawson, Jenson Olstrum, Kieran Eldon, Evan Alick and Daley Stables who was also named as man of the match.
The result now gives the Brow free passage into the semi-final due to the withdrawal of Ellenborough A.
Hensingham hooker Theo Crowe didn’t stop working all game and their only try of the game was scored by Ollie Dunn.
Askam made their journey up the coast a successful one as they beat Egremont A 22 -42.
Loose forward Dale Lambton leading the way was man of the match, hooker Lewis Stables scored 18 points with 2 tries and 5 goals and Owen Beadle scored a hat trick.
Other tries came from Alex Bowman (2) and Dylan Barrow. In response Egremont’s tries were scored by Cian Sharpe (2), Sam Williams (2) and Dan Telford who continued his good start to the season.
In the quarter final, Askam will now face Seaton who convincingly beat Kells A 68-10.
Seaton were always in control all game, their main man was back rower Alex Needham and on the score sheet were Charlie Ackerley (3), Jaiden Tallentire (3), Connor McCrickard (2), Liam Williamson (2), Euan Nicholson and Matt Dixon.
Kells tries were scored by Arben Pervizal and Kieran Halcrow, Credit given to prop Ani Suafoa for his tireless work despite the scoreline.
Unfortunately Cockermouth were unable to raise a team to travel to Flimby which put Flimby into a quarter final clash with Distington A who had a Bye through round 1.
Glasson were away to Aspatria Hornets and in a close fought battle Glasson’s experience and Aspatria’s high error count gave Glasson the victory 16-36.
They will now be in the quarter finals facing Maryport. Two early tries from Matt Burns gave Glasson early control of the game, Burns scored his third midway through the second half their others tries came from man of the match prop Jon Cameron (2), Carl Barcock and Danny Healy.
Aspatria’s points were scored by Jack Robinson, Dan Potts and Kieran Robinson.
