Hounds return to Oulton for third trail of series

Hounds returned to Oulton for the third trail of the series yesterday.

Thirty-six hounds turned out for the three-course trail and up first was the Seniors.

Nine hounds were slipped and Silver Dream and Thorn Soul were sent off as joint favourites.

Going along the beck edge, hounds had broken clear – Silver Dream for Darren and Julie McMaster and Anthony Skelton and Rodney Raider for Nicola McMaster and David Todhunter, Thorn Soul for Martin, Molly and Teddy Burrows and Sarah Jackson.

There was a 20-yard gap to Croft Lass for Stanley and Carole Jackson, David Loan, Ricky Deacon and Donald Hodgson.

Once they were out of the wood and onto the finish Silver Dream had broken clear and won by 20 lengths to claim her second Senior victory ahead of Croft Lass, who had 10 lengths on Thorn Soul who finished in third.

Rodney Raider finished in fourth and Thornton claimed his first senior ticket in fifth for Darren McMaster, Anthony Skelton and Sadie Wilson. The final ticket went to David Clifford’s Eden Rayna.

Up next were the pups with six lining up at the slip.

Going along the beck edge, three had broken clear, Delta Fortune for Sarah and Baz Harper and Hartley Robinson, chasing the first hound was Busy Rascal for Alan Blacklock and Carole Harrison and Denton Phantom for Lee, Hayley, George and Joey Wall, Sandra Mordue and Ted Storrows.

Once out of the wood and onto the finish Busy Rascal had broken clear and won by the finish ahead of Delta Fortune and Denton Phantom.

The final race of the evening was the Open Maidens with 21 taking to the trail.

Going along the beck edge, Cracking Artist for Bill and Pat Mellon and Tina and Wak Airey, Tucker for Nicola McMaster and Anthony Skelton, Castle Callant for Marti Borthwick, Mary Irving and Amy Brookes and Silver Star for Darren and Julie McMaster and Sadie Wilson had broken clear.

Once out of the wood and onto the finish it was Cracking Artist who had maintained her lead and won by 10 lengths ahead of Tucker.

Hound trailing resumes tomorrow, Saturday April 12, at Low Place for Hounds, Pups, Open Non Winners, Open Restricted and Veterans. Hounds slip at 1pm.
