Youngsters at a South Cumbrian school are taking on a fitness challenge to celebrate its 500th anniversary.
Pupils at Kirkbie Kendal School, in Kendal, are taking part in the 500 on the spot challenge.
Four personal trainers from the local area are in school this month asking a playground full of 120 students at time to complete 500 on-the-spot exercises in 20 minutes.
Throughout April students will be led through a series of exercise sessions thanks to Shauna Coates, Lyndsey Goodyear from Good220 gym, Matt Humpage and Tracy Dixon.
The fitness challenge is the latest of the school’s health and wellbeing activities, following on from its Kendal to Nice cycle ride last month, which smashed its original 1,525km target and students eventually cycled 2,025km – the equivalent of Kendal to Barcelona.
Headteacher Mark Harris said: “First to jumpstart the challenge was our year nine students, led by former teacher Matt.
“It was fantastic to see everyone, of all abilities, throw themselves into the mass exercise – certainly helped along by a little sunshine!
“Our huge thanks to the Kendal community who are joining in the 500-year celebrations – we’re receiving lots of school stories, photos, along with very-welcome donations towards our school improvements for the next 500 years!”
People can get involved via the school’s Facebook page, Kirkbie Kendal School Celebrating 500 years, or email 500years@kksa.co.uk
People are also invited to a free family garden party at the school on June 28.
It will include guided tours of the school, unveiling the student stories, creative performances, games, food and releasing the time capsule.
To back the pupils in their challenge, visit the school’s GoFundMe page to donate.
All funds raised will go towards the school’s new toilet block and enhanced student support.
