The ninth Brigham 10k saw runners and supporters come together for a day filled with determination, community spirit, and charity, writes Vince Brand, of Arenberg Photography.
Held for the first time on a Saturday, the event brought a new twist this year by reversing the route, introducing a gruelling 3km uphill climb at the start.
Despite the challenging terrain, the enthusiasm of the 141 runners – 75 male, 66 female – aged between 17 and over 75, proved unstoppable.
Stu from Cockermouth Rehab Centre officially kicked off the race and the elite runners powered through with Gary Pala from Cumberland AC crossing the finish line first in an impressive 00:36:41. Katie Lowles claimed the women’s title with a time of 00:40:15.
Runners were cheered around the course by family, friends, spectators and a very enthusiastic band of volunteers.
Everyone who finished the race were presented with a handcrafted clay medal made by pupils of St Bridget’s C of E Primary School in the village and a sports bottle donated by Lakes College.
A raffle, tombola, and cake stall added to the festive atmosphere, with generous support from local businesses.
All proceeds from the day, including entry fees and sales, are going towards providing St Bridget’s school with a new stage.
Organisers thanked everyone who played a part including the generous local business sponsors and said they were very excited about welcoming everyone back for the 10th year celebration in 2026.
