Train passengers are being encouraged to check their journeys ahead of multi-million-pound upgrades to the railway this bank holiday.
Network Rail is carrying out essential improvements to improve future journeys for passengers and freight between Saturday May 3 and Monday May 5.
Work includes signalling upgrades north of Carlisle in the Kingmoor area.
Between Saturday May 3 May and Monday May 5, buses will replace trains between Carlisle and Glasgow via Lockerbie.
On Saturday May 3 and Sunday May 4, buses will replace trains between Carlisle and Edinburgh, and between Carlisle and Dumfries.
There is also work scheduled to take place in Warrington and Salford.
People planning journeys to London Euston are also advised that trains will terminate at Milton Keynes on Sunday May 4 and Monday May 5.
Multiple track upgrades are due to take place, which can only happen during a full railway closure, Network Rail said.
Where possible people can travel either side of the bank holiday weekend to avoid the essential engineering work.
