Workington Town Women will face Carlisle United Ladies in the Cumberland Women’s County Cup Final tonight.
It will take place at Carlisle City’s Gillford Park and the game kicks off at 7pm.
Carlisle have been victorious on four previous occasions, with their most recent success in 2023.
Workington have won it twice under their previous guise as Workington Reds Ladies in 2016 and 2019.
Town will be looking to improve on being beaten finalists last year and emulate this season’s successes of their reserve team.
Nigel Thornthwaite’s reserves have already being crowned Lancashire League Champions and last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Bolton County added the Lancashire Challenge Cup to the impressive haul of silverware this season, thanks to a brace of goals from Rachel Gallagher and a stellar performance from keeper Kayce Whineray. This is the club’s first season under their new status as Workington Town Women FC.
The first team, led by Paul Mackenzie, will take confidence into tonight’s game from the fine run of performances over the closing weeks of the season, particularly their impressive semi-final victory against last season’s winners Penrith AFC Ladies and their last victorious league outing against Accrington Stanley Women.
Mackenzie said: “Our form has built throughout the season, resulting in us hitting some great form recently.

“We are very fortunate in that we are taking a very strong squad to take into tonight’s game, however this has given me significant headaches in making the decision on the 16 players that travel today.
“Carlisle’s manager, Tracy Gannon, has a depth of experience in ladies’ football and we know that she’ll have her troops well prepared for tonight’s game.
“We have prepared really well and the players are eager to get going, but we will be respectful of the challenge that lies ahead and we know that we will have to be on top form to achieve our goals.
“Irrespective of tonight’s result, the club has achieved amazing success in its first season as Workington Town Women.
“The reserves have done amazingly well and exceeded expectations and both teams have built throughout the season. The club is in a really healthy position at the minute and success tonight would be the icing on the cake.”
Tonight’s squad barring any late changes will be: Laura Miller, Tiegan Hargrave, Naomi Foster (captain), Chloe Henderson, Linzi Donaldson, Hayley Bracken, Bea Barber, Morgan McGrady, Helen Wagstaff, Lauren Campbell, Rowan Williams, Keeley Chatters, Ella O’Nions, Cassie Donald, Kirsten Donald and Nat Broad.
