The first osprey chick of 2025 has been born at a South Cumbrian nature reserve.
Cumbria Wildlife Trust posted a video on social media today, Monday May 19 and said the first chick had been seen in a nest at Foulshaw Moss, at Witherslack, near Grange-over-Sands.
There are two nests at the reserve – and there could potentially be a total of six ospreys born.
The first chick arrived at 12.45am yesterday, Sunday May 18.
Cumbria Wildlife Trist said it would hopefully soon be followed by a couple of siblings.
The best way to see the ospreys is via the webcam at https://www.cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk/osprey-webcam
Cumbria Wildlife Trust would like to remind people that the car park at Foulshaw Moss is quite small and gets full quickly.
It encourages people, if they are able, to visit using public transport – information about this is available at https://www.cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk/nature-reserves/foulshaw-moss
There are also bike racks available.
It added: “If you do arrive in a car and find that the car park is full, please return at a later time or date. The access road to the nature reserve is narrow and doesn’t have passing places, so please drive carefully and expect that you may need to reverse to help others pass.”
