Workington Comets team boss James Denham is confident that a brief two-week pause will re-energise the riders and spark a strong turnaround in their 2025 campaign.
There’s no denying that the recent results against Scunthorpe and Redcar have fallen well below expectations, leading to the Comets’ early exit from the BSN Series.
Denham is now looking for a positive response. He said: “We win and lose as a team – no individual performances are to blame. That said, we simply must improve. End of.
“It was hugely disappointing to lose at home by some distance to Redcar, there’s no doubt they have built a formidable team but we are more than capable and should beat any team at home – especially for the paying fans that come week-in-week-out.
“We will make no excuses about recent results and we will see how the next few fixtures unfold and go from there, but I’m fairly confident that this is just an early season blip.
“A lot of riders in this league are doubling up in the Premiership and have had 10 or more meetings, so once we get up to speed I have faith that the results will come.”
“We have the rescheduled first round Knockout Cup tie coming this weekend against Edinburgh and I think this two week break is needed to wipe the slate clean and go again this weekend.”
