Historic moment as Jennings begins brewing in Cockermouth

The unmistakable aroma of brewing should be wafting around Cockermouth town centre.

Just days after taking delivery of vital kit, the first brewing process is underway at Jennings Brewery.

The brewery closed in 2022, with bottled beer under the Jennings brand being sold by Carlsberg Britvic until March 2025.

In a deal which involved the transfer of rights to the Jennings brand, including all trademarks, intellectual property and recipes, Chris France, founder of speciality beer retailer Beer Hawk who grew up in the Lake District joined as managing director.

Other key appointments have been made in recent weeks as work steps up to bring the brand and brewery back to life.

“It’s great that we have our first brew in, very exciting times for Jennings,” head brewer Buster Grant said.

“We still have lots to do to the brewery to keep moving forward, but great that we’ve taken this milestone.

“And we didn’t just push it forward because we were getting thirsty!”
