Olly Murs’ forthcoming gig at Cartmel Racecourse has become the fastest-selling event in the venue’s history.

The former X Factor contestant is performing at the racecourse on Friday June 27.

Organisers said the gig has seen record-breaking surges in demand – beating even ticket sales for Sir Cliff Richard.

Geraldine MacKay, director of racing at Cartmel Racecourse, said: “We were expecting a strong response, but this has exceeded all expectations. The demand was on another level.”

Murs, who shot to fame in 2009, has sold over 30 million records, secured four UK number one singles and five number one albums, and become a familiar face on British television through roles on The X Factor and as a coach on The Voice UK.

Murs said: “I’m so excited to come to Cartmel to perform. It’ll be my first time at the racecourse, and I’ve heard it’s an amazing and unique setting so I can’t wait.”

Geraldine added: “By combining top-tier racing with headline music performances we’ve evolved Cartmel Racecourse into one of South Cumbria’s leading entertainment venues.

“June 27 is shaping up to be one of the most memorable days in our calendar. While final attendance figures can’t be confirmed as tickets are still on sale, the venue is preparing for one of its biggest crowds yet.”
