Plans to build a water storage tank – bigger than two Olympic-sized swimming pools – in Barrow have been revealed.
United Utilities said the tank, at a site off Flass Lane in the town, will cut the number of times that nine storm overflows in the town operate during periods of heavy rainfall.
That, it said, will help improve water quality in the town and surrounding areas.
United Utilities is offering the public the chance to find out more about its plans to improve water quality around Barrow.
People can find out more about the scheme at a drop-in event being held on July 1 between 2pm and 7pm at Beacon Hill Methodist Church on Holyoake Avenue.
The company said it would also be carrying out surface water disconnections between the South Newbarns and Roose Gate areas to improve network efficiency. Work is expected to start later this year and be completed in 2027.
Further projects to tackle another 12 storm overflows across Barrow will also be completed in the next five years, it added.
