
The volunteer crew of Barrow RNLI was called out in the early hours to search for a person believed to be in the water.
The lifeboat was one of several emergency services called to search for the person off the Fylde coast at around 1.35am yesterday, Sunday July 13.
Barrow RNLI launched all-weather lifeboat Grace Dixon at around 2am, with Shaun Charnley in command supported by a crew of five.
The lifeboat was on the scene in under 30 minutes and began a search in the area off Cleveleys and Fleetwood.
Volunteer lifeboat crews from Blackpool and Fleetwood were involved in the search along with local Coastguard teams, police, fire and ambulance services and the Coastguard helicopter.
After an extensive search lasting several hours, nothing was found, and all teams were stood down with the incident recorded as a false alarm with good intent.
The Barrow lifeboat returned to the Boathouse at Roa Island at around 5am.
