Former Whitehaven half-back Lachlan Hanneghan has told his present club he is not going to train or play for them again.
The Australian played in the Championship last season with Whitehaven and after they were relegated, he switched to newly promoted Hunslet who have found it extremely tough going this year.
Hanneghan, 25, played 29 times for the West Cumbrians last season and scored 10 tries while kicking 18 goals.
Hunslet said earlier this week that Hanneghan has told them he no longer wishes to represent them. The club told the player he must honour his contract but Hanneghan, appears to have refused.
They said: “We are disappointed to announce that Lachy Hanneghan has informed us that he no longer wishes to train with, or play for, the club.
“We have been in regular contact with Lachy and met with him and his agent last Friday, outlining his importance to the team and making it clear that we expect him to honour his contract.
“Unfortunately, Lachy has said he will not change his mind, though we do remain open to discussion for that to happen.”
Hunslet must now decide whether or not to let Hanneghan go, with interest mounting from other Championship clubs about a deal. They have already said they will only consider a permanent exit to collect a transfer fee, and no loan move will be considered.
The club added: “We have already had significant interest from several clubs, but we have made it clear that he will not be allowed to go out on loan.
“However, should any club make an offer that is deemed acceptable to us in terms of a permanent transfer, then we would give that due consideration. In the meantime Lachy remains in breach of contract.”
Sitting bottom of the Championship and facing a rapid return to League One with only two wins in 16 games they are also seeking a new coach after parting company with Dean Muir in June.
