Carlisle City were 5-1 winners last night against a Carlisle United Under-19s side – after conceding the first goal.
After United had taken an early lead, the Northern League side hit back with Jordan Irving helping himself to a first-half hat-trick.
A defensive mistake by the United youngsters allowed Josh Simpson to increase the City advantage in the second-half and the win was wrapped-up by Jordan Palmer with the fifth goal.
Northern League rivals Kendal Town were also in friendly action but were beaten at home 2-1 by Lancaster City – now managed by their former boss Jimmy Marshall.
All three goals came in the first-half with Steve Yawson, who played under Marshall at Kendal, scoring the first for City after only six minutes.
Nathan Caine adder the second before Matt Dudley pulled one back for the Mintcakes.
It was a commendable effort by Kendal against a side from a level higher, and followed an impressive 3-0 win on Saturday against NPL West opponents Clitheroe.
Penrith, the third Northern League side in the county, had no mid-week friendly following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Charnock Ruchard when Luke Hunter scored both goals.
They return to action on Saturday with another home game, this one against Threave Rovers of the West of Scotland League who beat Carlisle City 2-1 in a seasonal warm-up game.
