Carlisle Cycling Association celebrated the end of their summer season under blue skies last night.
The race series ended with a busy night of competition for all age groups, along with the end of season prizegiving and refreshments.
The Youth races were dominated by Scottish visitors this time with Theo Begg winning the Under-8 boys race and his team mate Zoe Martin victorious in the Under-10 girls.
The four Stewart siblings, Skye, Mitch, Cobey and Josh all won their races with the only English victories going to Carlisle’s Hannah Winkley in the Under-16 girls and Tyneside Vagabonds rider Zack Stobbs in the Under-16 boys’ race.
The adults had two races. The first was a 25 lap contest with sprint laps every five times round.
Dearham’s Jude Davison dominated the sprint laps but the overall win was taken by Muckle CC’s Ryan Parkinson ahead of Velo Club Cumbria’s Jonathan Wilson, with 360 Cycling’s Daniel Saba rounding out the podium.
Unfortunately the race was marred by a crash in the final lap which led to a short delay, but racing soon resumed with another 25 lap race.
Ryan Parkinson, on impressive form at the moment, won again and Daniel Saba bettered his previous result in second. This time it was local rider James Parkin of Wolf Cycles on the third step of the podium.
After the racing presentations were made to the overall winners of the series in each category, with prizes donated by local company Safety in Action Medical Services which has provided first aid cover to the race series.
The association also presented its special prizes. Volunteer of the Year was Roger Withington and Most Improved Riders were Jake Dobson, of Muckle CC, and Jessica Fearon, of Lakeland Sprinters.
Youth Rider of Year was awarded to Josh Stewart and Senior Rider of the Year went to Jude Davison, both of whom have enjoyed excellent seasons at Carlisle and further afield.
