Carlisle United had never beaten Harrogate Town in the Football League as they were a real bogey team.
But in Saturday’s friendly at Wetherby Road the Blues ended their hoodoo by winning 2-0.
It continued the pleasing build-up to the National League season for Mark Hughes and his men.
Also encouraging was the fact that two forwards were again on the mark – Regan Linney and Luke Armstrong with both notching in the first half.
It was the third game in a row that new recruit Linney has found the net while Armstrong was scoring against his former club.
Hughes also took the opportunity to look at a trialist in the second half – who was later named as Jed Abbey.
The 23 year-old has dual Netherlands and Ghana nationality and is a product of the Wolves Youth Academy.
After being released by Wolves he has played his football in the non-league with Alvechurch, Stafford, South Shields and more recently Alfreton.
Standing 6ft 4ins Abbey is a box-to-box operator and his best season was at Alvechurch when he scored 19 goals.
