Former Carlisle United defender Sam Lavelle is staying in the EFL after landing a new club.
The 28-year-old has agreed a two-gear deal with League Two Grimsby Town who finished ninth in League Two last season, two points outside the play-offs.
Lavelle was club captain with United last season and in two years at Brunton Park made 89 appearances, scoring seven goals.
He had previously captained Morecambe and in a career which also took in Charlton Athletic, Bolton Wanderers, and Blackburn Rovers as well as a loan spell at Burton he hads clocked up over 250 senior League appearances and 13 goals.
Although born in Blackpool he was capped by Scotland four times at Under-18s and Under-19s levels.
Grimsby manager David Artell said: “Sam is an experienced defender who will provide strong competition for the lads.
“He’s been promoted out of this division before with Morecambe and has played in the league above, so we are really pleased he’s chosen to join us.
“We welcome him to the club and can’t wait to start working with him.”
