A major programme of free business support is available in Cumbria, offering practical advice and workshops to help firms move forward.

Businesses across Cumbria can now benefit from free business support through the 2025/26 Cumbria Accelerator programme.

The offer includes tailored one-to-one advice, guidance on finance and hands-on workshops, all aimed at helping local firms move forward and all fully-funded.

Delivered by Enterprising Cumbria (formerly Cumbria LEP), the programme is open to companies of all sizes – from individual freelancers to well-established SMEs.

More than 50 new Cumbrian businesses every month are taking advantage of the support to fuel their growth.

Support shaped around your business

“Cumbria Accelerator is built around the real-world needs of Cumbrian businesses,” said Paul Foster, head of programmes at Enterprising Cumbria.

“Whether you want to grow your customer base, develop a new product or build your leadership skills, the support is there to help you move forward.”

The programme offers one-to-one business advice and practical workshops covering finance, marketing, digital transformation and innovation.

There is also a £500 grant available for people thinking about starting their own business for the first time.

“What sets this programme apart is the mix of personal advice and action-focused support,” added Paul. “It is tailored to your stage of business and shaped around what you need to succeed.”

This year’s campaign runs under the banner Your business. Accelerated. and encourages more businesses to take up the support now available.

The programme is open to businesses across Cumbria, with targeted support available for freelancers, early-stage start-ups, growing SMEs and established firms.

Real stories, real results

In the past 12 months, more than 700 businesses have benefited from the programme.

Many reported greater confidence, better systems and stronger sales as a result.

One of them is Noisekillers, a Carlisle-based business that creates bespoke, UK-manufactured soundproofing kits for drivers.

When Dan Smith took over as director in 2024, he faced the challenge of building on a respected legacy brand while bringing it to a new generation of customers. Developing a stronger digital presence was critical to growth.

Working with advisor Lateef Badat through Cumbria Accelerator, Dan received practical strategies to strengthen Noisekillers’ online presence and engage new audiences.

“Lateef was professional, methodical and extremely knowledgeable, giving clear and helpful advice,” said Dan.

“The biggest shift for me was learning how to tell a story online, not just sell a product. That’s helped us connect with customers on a deeper level and opened up new possibilities for growth.”

Since working with Cumbria Accelerator, Noisekillers has seen greater engagement across its digital platforms and renewed confidence about future growth.
