Twelve people have been arrested as part of an investigation into alleged illegal foxhunting in the Lake District.

An incident happened during a meet in the Ambleside area on November 8.

It involved the Coniston Foxhounds.

Seven arrests were made on November 13, with further arrests made in the last week.

All those arrested are men.

They were arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. All have been bailed while enquiries continue.

Chief Inspector Lee Skelton, of Cumbria police, said: “This investigation remains ongoing. Arrests have continued to be made over the last week as our enquiries continue.

“I would once again encourage anyone who has information which may assist this investigation to please make contact with us.”

Anyone with additional information is urged to report to Cumbria police online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it or call 101, quoting incident number 92 of 8 November.

Report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
