West Cumbrian youngsters have performed in the heart of London’s West End.
Thirteen members of Razzamataz West Cumbria were on stage at Shaftesbury Theatre on Sunday with other pupils from the theatre school across the UK as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.
The West Cumbrian pupils performed a showstopping piece inspired by Mamma Mia as part of the showcase.
Denise Gosney, founder of Razzamataz Theatre Schools, said: “This West End showcase was the most extraordinary way to conclude our 25th anniversary celebrations.
“Watching students from across the UK come together with such passion, pride and professionalism was incredibly emotional.
“These children and young people aren’t just performing, they’re growing, learning, achieving and shining. This is what Razzamataz is all about.”
The cast ranged in age from nine to 17 and for many of them, this performance gave them their first taste of what it would be like to be a professional dance, singer or actor.
Each child had to earn their place through an audition, and all had to show the necessary maturity to take part.
Matty Aitchison-Rayson, principal of Razzamataz West Cumbria, added: “There are not many people who can say that they have danced on a West End stage.
“The students really stepped up to the challenge of performing in such a large and famous theatre and this was an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives.”
