Cumbria’s coroners have officially moved into their new offices after a £2 million project.
The Coroner’s Service for the county has moved from its Cockermouth base to new premises at Allerdale House in Workington.
The new premises include two courtrooms, family rooms and office facilities.
The coroner’s section of the building is standalone accommodation with its own entrance and facilities, and judicial branding.
Its phone number will remain the same.
The service’s former premises on Station Road in Cockermouth were no longer fit for purpose and did not meet the needs of the service or its users.
The service is jointly funded by Cumberland and Westmorland & Furness councils, but Cumberland Council was appointed as the relevant authority and acts as the lead authority for coronial services in Cumbria.
Construction was carried out by Flimby-based firm Thomas Armstrong Ltd and was designed by architects and engineers at Align Property Partners.
