A walker in the Lake District was airlifted to hospital after falling 50m.

The walker, a 60-year-old woman, slipped on steep broken ground below Raven Crag in Gillercombe, and sustained severe cuts to her head, yesterday, Sunday April 19.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out at around 10.15am.

The team said: “Due to the location and potential serious nature of the incident, assistance from the Coastguard helicopter, based at Carlisle, was requested.

“The woman was treated by the helicopter paramedic and Keswick team, before being winched to the helicopter for an airlift to hospital.”
