A call has gone out for tug-of-war teams to take part in a South Cumbrian competition.

The event is part of the Cartmel Gathering at Cartmel Racecourse on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.

The tug-of-war will raise funds for Warrior Down, which supports individuals with multiple complex needs and their families through some of their toughest times.

The community interest company is inviting entries from sports clubs, local businesses, Young Farmers Clubs and groups of friends looking to test their strength.

The competition is catchweight, which means anyone over 18 can enter regardless of height, weight and gender.

As an added incentive, teams taking part will receive free entry to Cartmel Racecourse once their competition has concluded.

The winning team members will each receive a Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding hamper.

Entry is £5 per team member, all going to the Warrior Down.

Warrior Down said: “This is exactly the kind of community spirit we’re proud to be part of.

“We’re encouraging anyone who fancies a challenge to get a team together and enter.

“Not only will you have a great day out, you’ll be helping us continue supporting veterans and their families when they need it most.”

Cartmel Gathering is a celebration of the racecourse’s 170th anniversary.

To enter, email [email protected] with Tug of War Entry in the subject line and a contact name and phone number, and an entry form will be sent out –
