Barbecues have been banned at this year’s Kendal Calling after recent dry weather.
The festival’s organisers said disposable and charcoal barbecues will not be permitted at the Deer Park due to incredibly dry ground and parched grass.
Gas camping stoves and gas barbecues will still be allowed, provided they use gas canisters of 240g or less.
Organisers said gas appliances could be switched off once cooking was finished, whereas disposable and charcoal barbecues could stay hot for hours and were more likely to be left unattended.
They added that they could not take the risk with conditions being so dry and that some of the grass on site currently looks ‘closer to straw’.
Organisers said: “We know this may be disappointing, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.
“We appreciate your understanding and helping us look after the Deer Park. See you in the fields!”
