The M6 in South Cumbria is closed northbound due to a huge lorry fire.

The road is closed between Junction 36, near Kirkby Lonsdale, and Junction 37, near Kendal.

The incident happened shortly before 5.30am.

Cumbria police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and National Highways traffic officers were called to the scene.

Recovery work is now ongoing and there is stationary traffic, police said.

Due to a serious collision involving a car and a lorry closing the A590, which was being used as a diversion, drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys.
