A registered sex offender who broke the terms of a court order and communicated with a child online has been jailed.
Ryan Walker, 18, of Valley Drive, Carlisle, was given a 14-month youth detention order at Carlisle Crown Court for two counts of failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders’ Register, engaging in sexual communication with a child and facilitating an offence of sexual activity with a child.
Detective Constable Anna Ritson, of Cumbria police’s Management of Sexual and Violent Offenders team, said: “As part of an investigation Walker’s phone was seized and examined by officers.
“Officers located a number of online usernames and a new passport which had not been notified to police by Walker who was well aware of his notification requirements.
“Also located were messages exchanged between Walker and a child.
“Our main priority is to protect vulnerable people from sexual harm and we work hard to monitor and manage people who are subject to such orders.
“As in this case, we will find out if they breach the terms of these preventative orders and we will do all we can to ensure they are held accountable for their offending.”
