Whitehaven produced a top performance to win 3-0 at Turton, a side fighting for every point near the bottom of the table.
It could have been a difficult game on the road with a few key players missing but a shuffle of the pack which saw reserve players coming in and youngsters added ended in the West Cumbrians taking all three points.
Carl Short, one of the Whitehaven coaching staff, said: “We were really happy for the boys and we move into the final two games with some much needed confidence.
“Callum Bell was our man of the match at 17 years old and he looked like he had been there all season for us. It’s starting to show our strength in depth and we look to use all of that going into the end of the season games.”
Whitehaven had started a little shakily with a few early chances for Turton but their quality started to take hold, building more and more pressure and many ways into the home box.
Keeper Aaron Carter made a positive clearance to stop a counter attack from Turton and that was quickly turned into an excellent goal. A cross from Travis Fyfe saw Owen Woodburn manage to get round his marker to poke home before the keeper could gather.
The visitors finished the half well at 1-0 ahead but it could have been a few more.
The second half started with a bang with pressure from the kick-off and a well worked set piece led to Cody Benson volleying home from close range.
The pressure continued and Haven pushed for a further goal which came from a clever set piece down the right. Aidan Smith crossed first time into a great area and a scramble in the box finished with Josh Hilton sliding home.
Turton continued to push and had a few great chances, but Carter gave a fine performance, saving at point blank range on a couple of occasions.
The game really started to fizzle out and players began to lose pace and intensity but the job had been done.
Short, who was acting manager for the game, added: “It was an excellent day at the office for the boys. We were clinical and that’s something we have struggled with this season but more importantly for me was the clean sheet.
“We lost a stalwart in Brad Harrison early on but Paul Wright was outstanding, slotting into centre half after coming up from the reserves.”
