The Lake District will take centre stage in the first episode of Channel 5’s Big Steam Adventure.
After their epic trip from London to Scotland in 2023, Peter Davidson, John Sergeant and steam train expert Paul ‘Piglet’ Middleton, the Big Steam Adventure sees the trio getting around using only the power of steam.
The second series starts on Friday, May 3, featuring the Lake District, and the trio explore the area via the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, a gigantic traction engine, a 1906 steam launch, and a bone-shatteringly uncomfortable miniature Foden steam van.
The presenters headed to Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway last year to film for the programme, with all three presenters enjoying a trip along the iconic seven mile route from the only coastal village in the English Lake District World Heritage into the mountains en route to Dalegarth Station.
Along the way they found out more about the heritage of England’s first public narrow gauge railway.
Stuart Ross, general manager (visitor experience), Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, said: “It was fantastic to welcome Peter, John and Paul to the railway as part of their Big Steam Adventure.
“We hope people will tune in as all three experience the history of the railway and its stunning surroundings.”
The programme comes less then three weeks after Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway featured on BBC’s Countryfile, with a film crew exploring the station at Ravenglass and taking a sneak peek behind the scenes to see how the engines work.
The Big Steam Adventure on Channel 5 starts at 8pm on Friday, May 3.
