[F]airhill community group is one step closer to installing a playground at Fairhill playing field thanks to support from Story Homes.

The developer has donated to the fundraising efforts of a local community group looking to improve an existing small playground The group is looking to install a multi-play activity centre on land adjacent to the Story Homes development ‘Fairways.’

The group is now nearly halfway towards their fundraising target of £27,000 and volunteers are asking for more local businesses to come forward and support the playground.

Roz Exton who is leading the groups fundraising efforts said: “Fairhill Community Group gratefully acknowledges Story Homes’ £3000 contribution to our new playground at Fairhill Playing Field, bringing our fund-raising to almost 50% of our overall target. We are aiming to have the new playground ready for children to enjoy by Spring 2018.

“Our next fund-raising event is a table-top sale on Saturday 1 July in the Penrith Library Room, so please come and support us then. You can follow our progress on Facebook, we’re called Fairhill Community Group – Penrith North.”

The group is aiming to secure equipment for babies up to four-year-olds, including two cradle swings and two flat swings; a roundabout; a slide and safe flooring. The play apparatus is designed to promote rotation, balance, coordination and interaction and recognises local health initiatives.

Managing Director of Story Homes Cumbria and Scotland, Ian Storey said: “As a business, we are committed to supporting our local communities in ways that add long-term value and improve facilities for local families.

“This is an excellent example of what can be achieved when a community comes together – they are getting closer to their target and I’m looking forward to attending their opening event next year.”

For 30 years Story Homes has built a reputation for supporting communities in the areas surrounding its developments. ‘Future Story’ is the company-wide scheme designed to support requests from local charities and community organisations. Its focus is on supporting communities in ways that add long term value, for example, by helping people to develop skills or confidence that will last them a lifetime.

The scheme runs on a quarterly basis and applications for the current round should be submitted online by Wednesday 31 May 2017. Further information can be found on the Story Homes website.
