[T]HE mother and daughter team behind a popular toy shop in Windermere are this month celebrating two years since they took the reins of the business.
Amanda and Marlyn Griffiths opened The Rocking Horse on Quarry Rigg, Bowness, two years ago, after running a similar shop selling traditional toys in Lancashire.
Amanda said: “We had our previous shop for six years but took the decision to close and relocate to Bowness. The main reason we chose the shop is because we really like the area. We happened to be in Windermere over Christmas and spotted the shop when we were walking around, we then quickly decided it was the perfect location for us and everything happened quite smoothly from that point on.”
The Rocking Horse specialises in traditional wooden toys, but also stocks popular brands such as Brio, Bigjigs Toys, Le Toy Van and Melissa and Doug, among many more.
“We have some really exciting developments in the pipeline for The Rocking Horse. We recently introduced a small line of children’s clothes and we are looking to grow that over the coming months. The clothes are for children aged from two to six years old and everything is handmade by my mum – we have had a great response to it from customers so far.
“We have had a brilliant two years at The Rocking Horse. We are both so pleased to be based in Bowness, it is a fantastic combination of having so much to do right on your doorstep, while also offering amazing scenery in a beautiful location. We would like to say a massive thank you to our loyal customers for their support over the last two years. We have welcomed returning customers from up and down the country and it means a lot to us that they love The Rocking Horse as much as we do.”
