[G]ifted sports and performing arts students from St Benedict’s Catholic High School have been honoured at a special awards ceremony which was held last night.

The annual Physical Education and Performing Arts Awards ceremony was held on Tuesday 20th June, with nearly fifty students attending with their parents and families to pick up their trophies and awards. Governors and teachers from the school were also in attendance to celebrate the student’s achievements.

Ian Smith, Head teacher at St Benedict’s said: “As always I found this to be a tremendously uplifting experience. It is genuinely wonderful to be reminded of the breadth and depth of the talents our students have both within and beyond school.”

The ceremony showcased talented students from all year groups, who have excelled in either PE or Performing Arts subjects during the school year. Performing Arts students showcased their talents with singing performances, and former students returned to pass on their words of wisdom to the current students.

Awards handed out on the night included Performing Arts Performer of the Year and Sports Performer of the Year; Sports Awards for Football, Netball, Rugby and Cross County; Sports Team Awards; Musician of the Year; Vocalist of the Year; Dancer of the Year and various other group performance awards.

Students who have also worked as Sports Leaders, working within the community and school to promote sport were also honoured, along with those who have been chosen to represent County teams in various sports.

Lisa Powe, Head of PE & Performing Arts at the school said: “It is with immense pride and pleasure that the students at St Benedict’s are rewarded for all their talents and skills within PE and PA.  Our awards evening recognises the determination and commitment our students display in order to reach exceptional levels.  They are most certainly stars of the future and we are proud of all that they achieve.”
