Workers at Cumbria’s two main councils are preparing to take part in a ballot over strike action, according to a major union.
Unite said its members at Westmorland & Furness and Cumberland councils are among those at 22 authorities poised to vote.
The union said members had rejected a pay offer of 3.3 per cent from the national employers, which sets council workers pay, as they believed it failed to address years of below inflation pay offers and pay freezes.
Staff being balloted work in various council roles including waste and bin collections, street cleaners, street lighting, teaching assistants and home care staff, the union said.
The ballot opens on July 16 and closes on August 17.
