New Lakes Business Launches Designer Herdwick Fabrics

[T]he owners of an independent business that uses Herdwick fleeces to produce high-end woollen fabrics are hoping to secure success by launching two new ranges at the Westmorland County Show and establishing themselves under a new roof in Kendal.

Cable & Blake’s owners Rachel Cabble and Alice Blakeney-Edwards, whose business outgrew Rachel’s upholstery workshop in Burton in Holme, will soon be based in newly refurbished premises in the town’s historic Kirkland. No.185 Highgate, Kendal, Cumbria LA95AA will combine a workshop and showroom, where customers will be able to purchase the fabrics alongside some bespoke pieces of furniture, which Rachel has upholstered traditionally.

Alice said: “We love all things Cumbrian and found common creative ground in our passion for the Lake District landscape and the iconic Herdwick breed. We’re thrilled to be producing fabrics that are truly northern – they nod to the history of the wool trade locally and showcase the talented hand loom weavers over the border in Yorkshire.”

The fabric ranges, Book of Thought and Book of Bloom, are both inspired by the landscape in which the business is based. One uses the rugged outline of the fells and mountains as inspiration for its patterns, and the other replicates the natural, rich and earthy tones that are so characteristic of the Lake District.

“Launching the two ranges at the Westmorland County Show seems like a fitting tribute to the agricultural heritage that’s central to our business. We’re taking undervalued fleeces and using traditional and modern skills to create something that’s unique and highly desirable.” Concluded Rachel.

All our welcome to the two Launch Events:

On 14th September 2017, in the ‘Crafts from Cumbria Marquee at the Westmorland County Show, between 9.00am and 6.00pm, where Rachel & Alice will be showcasing their fabrics and bespoke pieces of furniture & furnishings crafted using their new ranges.

A launch evening at the end of November 2017, date to be confirmed, at No.185 Highgate, Kendal, Cumbria LA95AA, when the new store and workshop space will be officially opened.
