[B]usinesses across Cumbria are being urged to help protect themselves against the increasing risks of cyber-attacks.

Carlisle Ambassadors, Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner and Cumbria Constabulary are joining forces to raise awareness of the threat through a special business event. The free event aims to educate businesses to put the steps in place to help protect themselves from the increasing sophistication of cyber criminals.

It will take place on Thursday 28th September between 10:00am-12:00pm at The Halston in Carlisle. A number of leading national cyber security experts will be presenting at the event from organisations including Cumbria Police, Get Safe Online, Lloyds Bank and a software company.

Peter McCall

Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall said: “We all know how much businesses and their customers rely on the internet from doing their business banking to running their complete business online. This free event is open to all businesses and I would urge the business community to consider if they are protected sufficiently. It is too late when a crime has been committed, but by taking a few simple steps you can protect your business no matter how big or small as criminals have no boundaries.”

Kate Wilson for Carlisle Ambassadors said: “Businesses often ask what they need to do to protect themselves from cyber-attacks. We have key speakers from across the industry that will give top tips to protect your business. Taking time to attend the event will be a really worthwhile investment for the future, and we are proud to bring this to the city in collaboration with such an expert team.”
