Help identify future development land for homes and jobs in Eden

[T]he general public in Eden District are being asked to help identify land within the local area that could be used to meet future housing needs and for job creation as part of Eden District Council planning policies. There will be an eight week period within which people can put forward specific parcels of land for potential housing or employment sites.

This process follows the successful completion of the Main Modifications consultation for the Eden Local Plan 2014-2032, which is now is going through the final stages towards formal adoption, which is anticipated to take place before the end of 2017.

Eden District Council, as the local planning authority will shortly be preparing its Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment [SHELAA], which contains information on potential sites for housing and economic development and assesses their suitability, to help inform future planning policy in the District. It will also make a start on its Brownfield Land Register.

The requirement for the Council to prepare and maintain a Brownfield Land Register came into force in April 2017 and Eden will be publishing, by 31 December 2017, a register of brownfield land (i.e. previously developed land) within the District that is suitable for residential development. The purpose of the register is to provide house builders with up-to-date information on all brownfield sites available for housing locally. In helping house builders to identify suitable sites quickly, it is hoped this will speed up the construction of new homes.

Eden District Council’s Planning Policy Manger, Kevin Hutchinson, said: “If you are aware of any land within the Council’s Plan area (Eden District outside the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks) that could be considered for inclusion within the SHELAA and/or Brownfield Land Register, site submission forms will be available to view and download from the Council’s website: www.eden.gov.uk/callforsites from 9am on Monday 25 September 2017.”

All response forms should be sent with a location plan, and any other supporting documentation, either:

By email  to: [email protected]

By post to: Planning Policy Team, Eden District Council, Mansion House, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 7YG.

The deadline for the submission of sites is 9am on Monday 27 November 2017.

If you have any questions or queries in relation to the call for sites, please contact a member of the Council’s Planning Policy Team on 01768 817817 or by email: [email protected]
