Carlisle Crown Court

[A] WOMAN told a jury she watched her girlfriend being attacked by “three” men, and recalled: “I was scared she was going to die.”

Yazmin Wood gave evidence at Carlisle Crown Court during the trial of two men who deny being involved in allegedly “homophobic” night-time street violence in Penrith on August 18 last year.

Kevin Alexander Docherty, 35, and 20-year-old Kyle Jonathan Russell Hill, have each pleaded not guilty to assaulting both Miss Wood and her partner Laura Price, causing them actual bodily harm. Jurors have heard a third man, 29-year-old Ross Paterson, admits the two charges.

Miss Wood told the court she and Miss Price received homophobic abuse while holding hands at a petrol station. Moments later, she watched in horror as Miss Price was dragged down an alley by “all three” of the men.

They were, she said of the attack on Miss Price, “kicking her head off the wall like a football”.

“I couldn’t believe someone would actually do that to another human being, said Miss Wood, who has her face stamped on by Paterson, of Unitas Crescent, Carluke.

“I was scared she was going to die.”

Both women needed hospital treatment. But jurorsĀ have heard Docherty, of Castlebay Street, Glasgow, and Hill, of Glenafeoch Road, Carluke, deny being involved in the violence.

The trial continues.
