The Lodge – Bouth

[K]endal born and bred business owner Ian Winn is celebrating after his cottage in Bouth near Newby Bridge scooped gold in a national travel awards scheme by Sykes Cottages – the UK’s largest independent operator of UK holiday rental properties.

Taking the top spot in the Best for Romance category, The Lodge has been home to numerous marriage proposals and honeymoons since being made available to holidaymakers back in 2015.

The property sits on the outskirts of Bouth in a stunning location with views of Gummer’s How. It has become a romantic retreat for couples wanting to explore the area and enjoy the open fire and private hot tub.

The Sykes Gem Awards celebrate excellence in holiday cottage accommodation and saw thousands of entries from across the UK including over 250 in the Best for Romance category alone.

Judged by a panel of leading travel industry experts, The Lodge was assessed on its style, suitability and facilities, as well as its occupancy rate and customer feedback on cleanliness, comfort, location and value for money.

The Lodge owner, Ian Winn, said: “To win gold in such a fiercely contested category was such a wonderful surprise.

“The Lodge offers couples everything they’d need for the perfect romantic break so it’s not surprising our guest book is full of stories of proposals, anniversaries and ‘mini moons’!

“I was born and bred in Kendal so the area has a special place in my heart. It’s so rewarding to hear about all the experiences and memories our guests are creating at The Lodge and I hope winning this award means even more people get to enjoy the beauty of the cottage and Cumbria.”

Graham Donoghue, CEO of Sykes Cottages, added: “The Sykes Gem Awards have given us the chance to celebrate unique properties like The Lodge and their owners. The awards uncover the best of the best in our portfolio of properties and make it even easier for holidaymakers to select their ideal break. Whether it’s about discovering the best walks, most beautiful beaches, or finding properties that suit large groups or families, there’s something to suit everyone.”
