[H]awkshead Brewery won a record 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze awards at the brewers’ society North West beer awards on Wednesday.

These included awards for overall champion of both bottled beers and cask beers – the first time in England both awards have been won by the same brewery.

Hawkshead’s Windermere Pale won gold in its category and was judged overall champion cask beer. Brodie’s Prime Export won gold in its category and overall champion bottled beer.

Lager won gold in the bottled Premium lagers & Pilsners.

NZPA & Tiramisu both won silver, in their categories.

Sundown and Chuckleberry Sour took bronze in their categories.

Head Brewer Matt Clarke, said “I’m massively proud of what we achieve as a team, and gaining awards like these only add to our drive to push forward and keep brewing better and better beer”

Overall 250 bottled beers and 200 cask beers from North West breweries were judged in the competition run by SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) the main brewing industry trade body representatives.

Buster Grant, chairman of Society of Independent Brewers, said “in all SIBA’s history only one other brewery has ever taken both overall awards”

The gold award winning beers will progress through to the national awards which will take place in March 2018.
