Colin Parish, Lawn Master

[A] greenkeeper who is one of only 72 globally to hold a ‘Master Greenkeeper Certificate’ has left the golf course behind to focus on improving domestic lawns in the Lake District.

Colin Parish MG, the former Course Manager of Ulverston and Morecambe Golf Clubs, joined national lawn care company, Lawn Master, earlier this year. He purchased a franchise area covering all the LA post codes, taking in the South Lakes and Lune Valley.

Colin has worked in greenkeeping for more than 36 years beginning his career as an Assistant Greenkeeper at Heysham Golf Club. He attained Master Greenkeeper Certification in 2005, becoming the 40th greenkeeper in the world to achieve the accolade which is awarded to members of the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association who reach the highest standards of greenkeeping and golf course management.

Lawn Master started treating lawns in the 1990s and franchised the business in 2002, with the aim of having a qualified greenkeeper or grounds person in every area of the UK delivering high-quality lawn care to domestic customers. Franchisees include former groundstaff from Chelsea and Arsenal Football Clubs, and the Course Managers of Royal Winchester Golf Club and St Mellion International. The company provides bespoke treatment plans and a range of services which improve a lawn’s health, appearance and durability, such as aeration, scarification and overseeding.

Colin has customers from Millom in the west, to Ingleton in the east, Ambleside in the north and Lancaster in the south of the area who are benefitting from his expertise.

“I’m using the same professional products, machinery and turf maintenance practices that I used on the golf course, but in a domestic setting,” Colin says. “I’m enjoying working with homeowners, and their gardeners, to ensure their lawn stays in great condition all year round.”
