[P]UBS in Copeland can raise a glass to a £1,000 discount on their business rates.
Copeland Council has formally rolled out the scheme this week and has announced that around 70 pubs are eligible for the discount in the borough. Application forms are going out this week to inform publicans how to claim their discount.
The one-off discount on a pub’s National Non Domestic Rates (business rates) is effective from April 1, 2017, to March 31, 2018, and will be backdated to the start date.
Councillor Mark Holliday, Portfolio Holder for Revenues and Benefits, said: “This scheme will offer very welcome support to businesses in our borough.
“Especially in rural areas, pubs are the centre of their community and hubs for people to meet and socialise. I’m delighted that Copeland Council is able to support them in this way.”
The discount has been rolled out locally under the Government’s Support for Pubs Scheme. To be eligible for the discount, pubs must be open, allow free entry (apart from on special events), and allow the sale of drinks (without food) at a bar. Their rateable value must also be less than 100,000.
