[P]enrith made the short trip to Kendal Town for a very tricky test against a determined Kendal Town team. The task was made even harder with a very bobbly playing surface which made flowing football impossible for either team.

Penrith had the better of the first half and dominated possession however they lacked the cutting edge and squandered several golden chances.

Eventually , in the 38th minute, fortune favoured Penrith when former Penrith player Sarah McCabe stretched for a header but only succeeded in diverting the ball into her own net.

Penrith, almost immediately doubled their lead when Hannah Coulthard continued her rich vein of goal scoring as she diverted a Ruth Hopton’s shot into the net.

HT 0-2

Into the 2nd half Kendal set up with a more ambitious formation. This had the desired effect and Kendal came roaring back into the game. Their early pressure paid dividends as they claimed a goal back.

The game turned into a midfield battle from then on. Both teams had their chances but Penrith hung on for a nervy victory.

FT 1-2

Next Sunday the two must do it all again as Kendal travel to Frenchfields for the return fixture.

Penrith : Jones, Nelson, Alderson, C.Smith, McCormick(Johnston), Campbell, Nutter, Coulthard, Broad, Hopton, S.Smith.
